We are living in a post-modern media driven culture imbued with a love for the simulacrum. Artists today connect with loops, beats, and jump-cuts and freely reference, edit, and compose instead of ‘make’. By sampling, quoting, remixing, appropriating and re-contextualizing snippets, clips and bytes of media we construct new works of personal expression; building a new vocabulary to form sentences from. Perhaps some day we will only talk in quotes. In short – we flip it and reverse it.

The saturation and relentlessness of our visual media culture delivers so much of what we see daily, that it’s become an ever-advancing resource for the artist. This includes the mass-media hype of famous individuals, artists inspired by what contemporary life offers; pay homage to that same media hype.

From sound bites, film shorts, image plagiary and identity fraud Stuart Morrison, Bill Abdale, Ben Newton, Summer McCorkle, Stas Chepurnov, Justin Berry, Rebecca Gilbert, Dara Birnbaum and Tristram Bellotti build a repertoire that is more directly relevant and relatable to our lives and history than secondary representation could ever reach.
