This weekend, from Fri 13th – Sun 15th of Aug, The Pigeon Wing Library will be available at our neighboring Auto Italia’s Yes Way festival. A music festival featuring young, alternative and emerging music selected by Upset the Rhythm, as well as a merch shop and a publications area, which is where you will find us!

In ceremony of the closing of our current exhibition, The Pigeon Wing is pleased to present Alex Thomas and Tom Richards in Conversations with Machines: An Intervention with Ode to the Appliance at 7pm on the 5th of August.

In Ode to the Appliance, the viewers are reduced to spectators watching machine on machine conversations. Embodied through sonification, the sculptures’ interactions speak to a phenomenological agency existing outside of the human. Conversations with Machines brings the dialogue back to man/machine paradigm by focusing on the musicality of the pieces. As such, Richards and Thomas will take control and offer a different dimension to the works’ sonification.

Simultaneously, we often find ourselves frustrated by the most mundane errors in technology because they thwart efficiency — the very reason we use them. Tom Richards is a sculptor working with sound and technology. His latest show Ode to the Appliance, opening at The Pigeon Wing in London this Friday, focuses on the errors that are inherent in technology to expose the inadequacy of our reliance on machines”.

TPW has been invited to set up a mini cinema at Deptford X 2010. For the 25-26th of Sept and the 1-3rd of Oct we will be putting together a full programme of emerging artists film, in collaboration with LUX who we are collaborating with to select films in rely to Mark Titchners statement for Deptford X this year. The programme will be announced here.

Following the ethos of the ‘penny university’ coffee houses of the 18thC and their non precious and generous dissemination of knowledge via mutual reading and conversation, The Pigeon Wing will be holding a reading table this Saturday the 26^th at Camberwell Arts Festival. With aims to provoke open critical discussion between visitors, the table is to be laden with pamphlets and limited run publications by a range of theoretical and visual artists listed here:

Open between 11 am – 4 pm all are welcome to join us. Also at the green on Saturday are Foodface’s Travel Solutions, which are tours around Camberwell Green in the medium of sound-scapes, maps, one on one artist led tours, performances and poetry.

MicroPerformance presents the agency exhibition events programme in a single evening:
a drawing workshop with Bram Thomas Arnold , a new performance; Tongue Tied with Lee Campbell, a recital, by Adam de la Cour with Neil Luck, a publication; Enchantee Monsieur Umbrella….; with The Ladies of The Press *, a film screening; After Party Party by Sophie Michael and Revati Mann, in conversation with Laura Mugridge and Katy Schutte, a gallery talk with norn, a seminar with Ashley Whitfield, presented by The Pigeon Wing, a reading from the archives by Laura Wilson in conversation with a bricklayer and a special appearance from Adrian Lee who will deflect illicit intent through the production of an aura of angst.

We’re brewing up a show for July that addresses the use of samples in video and the parallel use of identity usurpation in performance and sculpture; working with artists who build their own aesthetic and identity from or heavily referencing someone else’s.

Fabian G. Tabiban is getting involved with selecting some films for this show. He has recently been working on things such as THIS.

Presenting Norn, The Pigeon Wing, Ledge projects and more

The gallery space will be given over as a pop-up space to artist/curators and collective art initiatives, which have established identities in their own right. Rather than to fix a definition of what these cross-over practitioners are or are not, the exhibition seeks to unravel the boundaries and meanings of artist- curator- collective, artist-run space, performer and to open up the possibilities of an event or events leading to an unspecified outcome which is only determined by the start and end date of the exhibition.

An Endless Supply was formed in Birmingham in 2009 by Robin Kirkham and Harry Blackett. It is a monthly open submissions zine for the production of new art and writing. It is currently printed in two colours with a Riso GR2710 purchased on eBay, and distributed for free nationwide.

“Justin Berry is a New York based artist who I first met whilst exhibiting at NEXT Art Fair in May 2009. As well as being a practising artist, he also runs The Waymaker Gallery , a fictional gallery located in the fictional town of Yorkton, New Caladon. He is also a master at ordering dim sum.”
